Maine Dog Adoption & Fostering
Thank you for your interest in adopting a rescue dog.
WIth our Maine dog adoption, our intention is to make the best match possible between you and your new family member. The adoption process requires you to complete an application online or by downloading and mailing a printed copy. Approved applicants are provided contact information for the foster parent or caregiver to learn more about the dog’s history, temperament, personality, etc. in order to make an informed adoption decision. Once an applicant commits to the adoption, a reservation is made for the dog to arrive in Maine on the next regularly scheduled transport from Louisiana.
Puppy Love, Inc. is licensed in Maine – #F1488 – and adoptions occur in the midcoast area. We do not place dogs beyond a five-hour radius from midcoast Maine. We are foster home based, and do not have public viewing. On occasion, approved applicants can meet dogs currently residing in Maine foster homes awaiting adoption.
Please note the following Puppy Love adoption policies:
Because young puppies require intensive training and care, we do not place puppies younger than six months of age in a home where someone is consistently absent from the home for long periods of time.
Due to potential injury and behavior/training concerns, we are very cautious when placing dogs younger than six months in homes with children under the age of 8. Puppies and kittens chew, scratch and nip, and children may be unintentionally rough as well.
Due to higher adoption failure rates, we do not adopt to homes with children under the age of 5.
Applicants must be at least 23 years old and head of household.
All members of the household must agree to the adoption and all pets must be neutered or spayed.
Anyone renting or leasing must have landlord’s permission before an adoption can be approved.
We prefer that applicants have lived at their current address for at least six months. This allows owners time to settle in to their new surroundings and establish a routine before bringing a pet into the home. Please remember that any time of transition is probably not a good time to adopt a pet.
At time of adoption you will be required to sign our adoption contract and pay the adoption fee of $395, which is applied to the transportation cost as well as veterinarian service and foster care provided to your pet during the rescue process.
You can either apply online or download and print our form to fill in and return by mail.
